Dr. Keith Brown is an environmental scientist with over twenty years experience in waste management. He joined AEA in 1992 after a career in environmental research in the power generating industry. Since then, he managed R&D programmes on landfill science and the commercial development of energy from waste, representing the UK in the technical advisory committee of the International Energy Agency’s information sharing programme on waste management. Dr. Brown has worked on numerous projects for the European Commission, European Environment Agency, UK central and local government and the private sector on waste management issues and chemicals in the environment. He has recently led a project to develop the ‘LAWRRD’ model, which is used by the UK government to predict material flows and costs to local authorities of managing municipal solid waste, which was used for the analysis supporting the current Waste Strategy for England. Dr. Brown represents the UK government on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Emission Factors Review Board on emissions from waste management. He has a doctorate in biochemistry and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management.
